Now embarking on its 17th edition, Patient Safety has rapidly become the must-attend healthcare conference for medical professionals.

CEO Interviews

Prioritising patient safety

For the last 21 years, Kiwi Medical Supplies and its five sister companies have focused on providing healthcare solutions in different domains such as IT, apparel, consumables, and stationery.

As a specialist provider of CSSD solutions, at Patient Safety, the company will be putting the spotlight on the ‘Instru-track’ product, which helps to digitalise the conventional manual way of instrument track and trace.

In an interview, Satish Jaisinghani, CEO and President of Kiwi Medical Supplies LLC, said: “I appreciate Informa Middle East on organising the 17th edition of Patient Safety, and we are happy to be a part of it for the last several years. The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the entire IT industry years ahead, and we believe it will continue. Due to safety concerns related to the error in manual documentation, in the near future, every hospital will implement an advanced instrument tracking system to stay compliant with the latest international guideline and local regulations.”

Could you tell us about your company’s products or solutions that enhance Patient Safety?

Kiwi Medical Supplies has focused on just one aspect since its inception: Patient First. Patient Safety has always been our priority. Hence, we choose to work with the finest leading manufacturers, stock the product in state-of-the-art storage facilities and appropriately train the end-user on its correct usage.

We represent world-class manufacturers such as Borer Chemie, MMM, Terragene, Dr. Schumacher, SteriClin, Key Surgical, Famos, Elma, to name a few that are leaders in providing cleaning, disinfection, and sterilisation solution for Patient Safety.

The theme of Patient Safety this year is ‘Breaking down the barriers to providing safe patient care. What, in your opinion, are the barriers organisations have to face when it comes to rolling out effective patient safety procedures? How can these be overcome?

Due to the pandemic, most organisations worldwide face budget cuts, which may put patient safety at risk. Almost 16 per cent of the hospital spending is towards equipment and supplies, and we take it as our duty of being a responsible supplier to suggest an efficient solution to our customers. With the infection prevention solutions we have, we can help hospitals reduce re-admission due to infection, monitor lost inventory of equipment/instruments, provide accurate billing of the items used in the OT, and provide equipment that will provide lower-cost of ownership due to durability.

What impact are technologies having in improving patient safety? What are some of the growth areas in the industry?

It is a myth that the latest technology is expensive. If implemented correctly, technology can provide the ROI within a very short time. For example, let us consider robotic-assisted surgery. It may seem like a massive investment at first. Still, alternatively, you can do more surgeries in less span of time, provide faster post-surgical recovery, and reduce the risk of infection by many folds. Likewise, in CSSD, the Instrument tracking system has been one technology in the market for decades, but we still have less than 10 per cent of the hospitals using it in the UAE. Surprisingly, the hospital spends millions on purchasing their surgical inventory but has nothing to manage it.

What, according to you, are the opportunities available to healthcare and trade professionals who attend the virtual Patient Safety event?

I was able to attend the physical patient safety show in 2019. I am convinced that this platform provides much more than just education, such as networking and the ability to see the latest the industry has to offer.

Could you shed light on any future plans or partnerships?

We want to extend our gratitude to our respected customers, partners, our family of employees and most important of all, the leadership of the UAE for their trust and support, which has helped the growth of Kiwi Medical Supplies for almost a decade. We will continue our journey towards our vision of being regionally known, respected, and trusted for its distribution and service expertise through our professional representatives in an ethical way.
